Cry Of The Dragons
By Aftran Skywalker.

Aftran Skywalker, the daughter of Mara and Luke Skywalker, woke up to a bright day on Yavin 4, She got up, bathed, dressed, and went down to the mess hall. Her lightsaber swung at her belt, and her black boots made no sound as she walked sedately down the halls. Aftran was no assassin, but she had been trained like one from her mother, who used to be in Imperial service. As the twenty four year old woman walked into the mess hall, she caught sight of her father talking to a dark haired young man about thirty years old. Aftran's brilliant emerald/sapphire eyes narrowed in calculation of this young man. She walked on, and she scooped up a tray of food and sat next to her twenty three year old cousin Jaina Solo.

"Hey, Jaina. Where the hell have you been?"

Jaina turned to look at her cousin. Aftran was lanky, a main reason why she was tall, and her long hair flowed all the way down to her calves. Instead of being a strawberry blonde, her hair was a fiery bronze. Her eyes were a bright sapphire/emerald, but they changed according to her moods. She was slender, too, and a good fighter.

"Ah, so-so. Zekk's fine too. We've settled on Bakura. Our children are fine as well."

Aftran chuckled in amusement and pride. Then a hand fell on her shoulder and she turned her head to see her father. His blue eyes were sparkling with happiness, pride and mischief. Aftran let out a resigned sigh. She knew what her father had in mind. (Again.)

"All right, what is the catch this time?"

Luke laughed. His daughter was very smart, and she could figure out most of the tricks he tried to pull on her. Then his smile faded.

"Look, Aft. I need your help."

Aftran felt a sense of cold go up her spine. She knew that he was telling the truth this time.

Later, in her father's chambers, she soon learned what was going on.

"Aftran, this is Kyp Durron. He's one of the first few Jedi I trained at my academy. he's learned that a fragment of the empire is allied with the Ssi-Ruuk."

At this, Aftran snarled a curse in Huttese.

"Are they crazy? I know what those life-sucking parasites tried to do last time!"

The enraged Skywalker slammed to her feet and clenched her fists. She was lethal when she was this angry. Kyp watched her, with a wry smile. His dark eyes danced in amusement and impression as he listened to her vent her anger. Luke smiled and shook his head.

"She picked the Huttese up from Han and his smuggling buddies."

Kyp snorted, trying to hold back a laugh. Aftran's head snapped up and she glared at him wiht fiery emerald eyes, clearly meaning that she was angry. A few seconds later, she calmed down.

"All right. The Fluties have covered most of the Outer rim systems, but their main target is Bakura." Aftran sharply drew in a breath.

"Sithspit. That's where Jaina and Zekk have taken up residence!" Kyp looked at her in alarm.

"Tell me you're joking. You are, right?"

Aftran sent him a withering glare. She still looked beautiful, despite the fact that she was furious and afraid, to him at least.

"You're a Jedi. You would know if I lied."

Kyp nodded. He didn't know her all too well, but she was formidable and intimidating, not to mention striking when she was disgusted with him. Luke smiled. He knew what was going through his former acolyte was thinking. Aftran studied the map and the tactical displays.

"Okay, they have two cruisers, one flagship, three Interdictor Cruisers, < damn how did they get their claws on them?!> and six Destroyers."

She turned to Kyp, eyes a sharp shade of crystal blue. Luke grimaced: she was disgusted. But then, as she looked at the displays again, she stared, then she burst out laughing. But then, knocking interupted the meeting.

Aftran fell back into her seat, laughing so hard she could barely breathe. "Gods of the skies, that is so..." She couldn't stop laughing until Kyp cut in with a sharp: "What is so funny?" Aftran chuckled. "Isn't it obvious?" She pointed at the display again. "Look. They came up in a diamond formation. Yes, perhaps there will be a few perfections, but the big flaw is this: if they try to deploy fighters and such, they'll have to move apart" just enought for a bunch of proton torps to come roaring in and blast open the main flagship." She looked closely at the nameplate of the flagship. "The Shriwirr II. Well, that's a stupid name." Kyp crossed his arms over his chest. "What's so dumb about it?" he asked sharply. Aftran looekd at him. "It means 'ripe with eggs' in the Ssi-Ruuvi language. I didn't study it for nothing." Kyp looked doubtful, but inside he was smiling brightly. <Whoa, she's one heck of a tactical genius,> he thought to himself privately. Then a sharp knock on the door interrupted them and the door slowly opened. Her second cousin, twenty three year old Jacen Solo walked in, a warm smile on his face. Aftran grinned at the ambassador from Coruscant. "Hey, Jac! Where the heck have you been?" Jacen enfolded his lanky cousin in a backslapping hug. "Ah, just goin' round the galaxy, settling disputes and such like." The bronze haired Skywalker threw back her head and roared with laughter. "Jacen are you trying to tell me that diplomacy is fun? Come on!" Jacen chuckled. "Aw, shut up." Aftran swiped laugh tears from her eyes. Jacen grinned at his uncle and the two exchanged greetings. Jacen soon left the Jedi Academy, with a load of Ssi-Ruuk info on his mind.

Two days later, Aftran found herself in her personal ship, the Dragon Wing. Kyp was on her ship, since his shuttle, the Jedi's Heart, was up at the Sluis Van shipyards, getting a full refitting. Aftran was in her room, plucking idly at the strings of a flyta, a musical instrument. She began to sing, in accopaniment to the flyta's warm, liquid sounds. She could sing like an angel, and the song itself was enough to draw Kyp to her room.

"Look at me
You may think you see
Who I really am
But you'll never know me
It's as if I play a part
Now I see that if wear a mask
I can fool the world
But I cannot fool my heart"

"Who is that girl I see
Staring straight back at me
When will my reflection show
Who I am inside?"

"I am now
In a world where
I have to hide my heart
And what I believe in
But somehow
I will show the worlds
What's inside my heart
And be loved for who I am"

"Who is that girl I see
Staring straight back at me
Why is my reflection someone I don't know
Must I pretend that I'm
Someone else
For all time
When will my reflection show
Who I am inside?"

"There's a heart that must be free to fly
That burns with a need to know the reason why"

"Why must we all conceal
What we think
How we feel
Must there be a secret me
I'm forced to hide?"

"I won't pretend that I'm
Someone else
For all time
When will my reflection show
Who I am inside?"

"When will my reflection show
Who I am inside?"

Kyp walked into her room and sat beside her on the bed. "So, what was that all about?" Aftran laid down the half harp, half guitar made flyta and folded her hands in her lap. "My parents, I don't see through them. Somethimes, they treat me like as if I was nothing, sometimes. They never hinted about the talents I secretly had, that I found out on my own." Kyp looked at her, openly concerned. "What do you mean?" She looked away. "Long ago, dragons lived on these worlds, instead of humans. I'm the only one who can see and speak to them. I can morph, as well. Why they wanted to keep it a secret, I'll never know." She got up and her black jumpsuited figure strode down the hall towards the cockpit. Kyp followed her, with a gentle smile on his face: but deep inside he was concerned and incensed at her parents' obtuseness and selfishness. They broke out of hyperspace right into the Bakuran system. Aftran took a glance out the viewport and she did a sudden double take. The enemy fleet!

was closing in slowly on Bakura: and it would soon be too late to stop them. Then Ssi-ruuvi fighters, pyramidal metal things bristling with armor and weaponry flew out at them and the Dragon Wing rocked from side to side from heavy laser fire.

Aftran swore in Rodian, Huttese, Bothan, and five other languages and fired the seventeen turbolaser batteries. Then she headed down into the atmosphere, heading for Salis D'aar, the capital city of Bakura...

Tears Of Fire

Aftran Skywalker cursed violently in Bothan several times before she managed to get control of her ship, the Dragon Wing. Kyp, who was swearing vividly in Huttese then, pulled himself off the floor and fired the seventeen banks of turbolaser batteries and five ion cannons and Aftran took them on a nosedive plunge towards Bakura. She slapped the comm system's switch. "Hello, Bakura? This is the Dragon Wing. Requesting emergency landing coordinates." A voice came onto the comm. "Dragon Wing, you must fly fast enough so we can lower the shield." Aftran looked at the readouts. The shields weren't gonna be holding much longer. 'The black quantum armor had better be enough to hold them off,' she thought grimly. The engines were all right, though. "Salis D'aar Spaceport, engines are at full power. Drop shield when you're ready." The controller responded. "Three, two, one, GO!" Aftran punched the accelerators and the Wing shot into the gap and the shield closed just in time. Three squadrons of Ssi-ruuvi fighters crashed against the shield and exploded.

When she landed in armored docking bay 53, she opened the hatch and walked out. Zekk and his children, Riverwind and Clearwing came to greet her. "Aftran. Damn, it's good to see you again." Aftran laughed. "Same here, coz." Then her face grew grim. "Zekk, you and the others are in danger. You gotta get off this planet and back to Yavin 4." Zekk looked angry. "We know. But the damned government won't let us. I'm a Jedi: therefore I'll have to protect Bakura." Aftran bit her tongue to keep from cursing. Kyp snorted, trying not to laugh. His eyes danced wiht amusement. Zekk grinned. "Jaina came home three days before you did." Aftran hissed. "Aw, shoot. That means she's bound here too!" The dark haired Jedi shrugged. "Heck with it." Aftran thought long and hard. "Zekk, if we can't get you off planet, the children can?" Zekk nodded. Aftran grimaced. "I'll call Aunt Leia: she can send Han to pick up these two fledgling." Zekk smiled wryly. "Great. Now let's go." Later, as they sat !

around the table, eating some fried bantha steaks and green seacress, they were talking about the attacks on the Bakur complex. Aftran was watching the twins but then a loud BLAM shook the house. Aftran looked up and cursed. Ssi-Ruuk were landing and stunning everything in sight. Aftran felt hot tears flow down her cheeks. They were tears of fire.

When they were inside the house again after the first attack, Aftran looked around and saw Zekk come in, carrying a half stunned, very sleepy Riverwind. The minute the little boy, who had his father's green eyes and black hair, saw Aftran sitting on the floor, jumped out of his father's arms and ran to his aunt, trying to climb up on her lap. Aftran chuckled wickedly and scooped little Riverwind up.

"Hey, you quit runnin around or you're gonna hurt yourself!" she teased the kid.

Riverwind squealed. Finally she set him down and went out side. Kyp was out there, watching the bright points of light that were clearly the Ssi-Ruuk's ships.

"What are you doing?" she asked him quietly.

He turned, trying to hide the flicker of amusement in his eyes. He was half in love with her already, she more than half in love with him, but they were still the same level as Jedi Knights, if not of the same age.

"Trying to figure out if we should attack out right. Man, the Ssi-Ruuk are so damn smart. They know what happened last time: for sure they're gonna be ready for us this time. They're not stupid."

Aftran snorted with laughter.

"But you wish they were, yes?"

Kyp started laughing hard enough to wake a full herd of banthas.

"Damn, you don't give up, do you?"

Aftran hissed in apprehension.

"Shut up! You want the kids to hear?"

Kyp rolled his eyes, but he cut the swearing anyway. Aftran laughed and whacked him on the shoulder good naturedly. She watched the skies for a few minutes, then she went back inside. Kyp watched her go, then he turned back to watching the skies. He shook his head.

"Kyp, she's about six years younger than you are. And already you're halfway in love with her!"

His heart was confused: and her didn't know where to turn...

Aftran shook herself and stood up. She looked around at the damage and she cursed in three languages.

"Goddamn it! Those fucking sons and daughters of Sith Lords."
she muttered viciously under her breath. Then she saw Kyp, trying to drag himself out of underneath a fallen half grown pokkta tree that had fallen to the ground. She ran over and pulled her lightsaber from her belt.

"Kyp, hold still. I don't want you to lose any limbs."

She activated the blade, and its pure white beam shot out and stopped at its full meter length. She carefully cut around him and then she shut the thing off and clipped it to her belt. She threw the pieces of wood off of him and he dragged himself up off the ground and brushed himself off, wincing at the pain in his wrist. She looked him over.

"Anything broken?" she asked him.

He looked up, a smile in his dark eyes. There was something else there too, but it was half hidden because then she saw pain in his eyes. She looked at his wrist: it was broken. She took it carefully in her slender yet strong as steel gold-bronze hands and closed her eyes. White light flowed out of her and the bone began to knit--very, very fast. Then she opened her eyes and smiled at his surprise. He hugged her gratefully. She was surprised, but she smiled and returned the embrace. He held her close, and suddenly, something sharpened his every focus on the young woman he held in his arms, who had just healed his injury. He buried his face in her hair and breathed in her scent, which was of fresh rain moistened air and a spicy, pleasant scent: the smell of dragons. He let go of her before she coudl ruin the memory and grinned lopsidedly at her. She smiled back at him. Her smile was beautiful, like several tiny white supernovas all coalesced into one. She lowered her bright sapphire/emerald gaze and her face darkened to a deeper shade of gold-bronze. A little hint of ruby blood shone through. Kyp smiled gently, but he was pleased with her reaction to his smile. Then cries came from the forest and several people ran out of the forest. Aftran knew that she had to get Jaina and her family out of here and to the Jedi academy. She ran to the house and found them, getting their belongings. Aftran swallowed. She knew what she had to do.

"Jaina, Zekk, take the shuttle Dragon's Tail in the docking bay. The quantum armor will protect you from the Bakuran blockade. Tell them that two substitute Jedi Knights are here and will take over for you. Tell my father to send armed reinforcements. May The Force Be With You both."

She ran outside and saw that Kyp was cornered by three Ssi-ruu. The sight made her blood boil.

She snatched her saber from her belt and raised it, activating the blade. A battle song rose inside her and burst out into the air. Several Ssi-ruu went at her and she turned her fiery emerald eyes on them. She sang beautifully, her voice carrying courage, insult and fire.

"So are you ready to go?
Here we go"

"Come on
Jedi Knights are here to stay
Come on
Jedi Knights, Jedi Knights"

"So get it
When you got it
Just keep it...good"

"So you got it
Just use it
And work it well"

"So are you ready to go
Here we go"

"Come on
Jedi Knights are here to stay
Come on
Jedi Knights, Jedi Knights"

"So you want me
Come and get me
Gonna tell you why"

"You hate it
You know it
So prepare to die"

"So are you ready to go
Here we go"

Then she let out a battle cry and ran at them. She slew three, wounded five and slew another one.

Kyp got up and switched on his lightsaber. The blue/green blade sprang out and he began fighting.

His voice, warm and pleasant, a gentle baritone, mingled with Aftran's gentle yet loud and battle filled soprano.

"Come on
Jedi Knights will lead the way
Come on
Jedi Knights, Jedi Knights
Come on
Jedi Knights will show you the way
Come on

Aftran lowered her lightsaber and she looked at the dead and wounded Ssi-Ruuk. She knew the battle was far from over, but she knew better then to let down her guard. Kyp came over, lightsaber again at his belt. She did the same, switching her blade off. He pulled her into his arms and she laughed with relief.

"Kyp, are you all right?"

He smiled at her: warmth showed in his eyes.

"Yeah, thanks to you." He smiled, then lowered his head and kissed her gently on the mouth. Aftran was so surprised she forgot where she was. Then a bit of her mind realized why and she returned the kiss with as much fire as he was. She smiled at him when they pulled away. Kyp held her close, a smile on his face. He looked at the sky. The Ssi-Ruuk were up there: and they had to be destroyed. But for now, he was content. He kissed her again and she kissed him back. But both of them knew, as night fell and they went back to the Dragon Wing, that this was only the beginning...
